What is it: a book, play, theater production? Fiction or nonfiction? What is it about? Brief outline of story/plot line and or context. considers the author: are they credible? do they have any prior experience in the field? etc. considers the structure of the text: is it clear, well organized? considers how the story was supported with examples: what sorts of examples did the author use: first person account narratives, historical documents, artifacts, etc.? analyzes any strengths and or weaknesses of the writing, logic, structure, voice, etc. Considers if the writing is accessible. makes an argument of support (or not): do you recommend it to someone else? states the recommended audience and explains why this text would be a good fit for them. Who would benefit from reading this? is it a beach read or for scholars? may include personal feedback from you, the writer. How did you grow from reading this? How did this text change your mind? Did it make you reconsider a formerly held opinion? Restrict this to the last thoughts, tackle in the conclusion. I recommend looking at popular newspapers (like The Guardian or The New York Times) and reading through some of their book reviews to give you an idea of what a popular book review looks like.
