Essay Assignment #4 is due Thursday 08\/15 by 11:59pm 6 pages (not including the Works Cited page), double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font. Readings: Any ONE story, poem or play on the syllabus (your choice). Two scholarly articles that you\u2019ll find through research and any other additional sources of your choice (there is no maximum amount of sources you could use). Therefore, you must have 3 sources in total as a minimum: one text from the semester and two scholarly articles (from the library\u2019s database). On a previous essay assignment, I asked you to think about how one text shapes your reading of another text. This assignment asks you to continue to develop that skill, but to deepen it by bringing in outside research of your own. For your final essay I\u2019d like you to locate one or two scholarly journal articles that will serve as the \u201clens\u201d through which you analyze your chosen work of literature. Explain how the articles shape your interpretation of the work of literature. For example, do they help you to understand the issues that the literature raises? Or, do they show that these issues are more complex than the literature would lead us to believe? Or, do they challenge the argument made in the piece of literature? Or, do they support that argument? Your essay must meet these requirements: Do non-literary research: Please don\u2019t look up literary criticism–for example, don\u2019t use criticism that analyzes symbols or characters in the work that you choose to analyze. Use scholarly sources that you find through research: Your paper\u2019s grade will be reduced if you don\u2019t use at least one scholarly If you\u2019re not sure if your source is OK to use, please ask me. Make connections between texts: Your paper must connect your research to the piece of literature that you\u2019re analyzing. Don\u2019t just describe what your research sources say. Use quotes from the piece of literature and from each scholarly source that you use. Have a Works Cited page: Your final draft must include a Works Cited page in MLA style. The Works Cited page does not count toward the 5 full-page length requirement. Turn in copies of your sources: You must submit copies of all of your secondary sources along with the final draft. You can do this by saving PDFs and attaching them, scanning in documents or sharing links to websites for other sources. There is no maximum amount of sources you can bring in, but you must have ATLEAST two scholarly articles (found in the library database).
